Prices for B30-VLSFO (POMEME) biofuel in Rotterdam, specifically the ZRE A-rebated variant, experienced a notable increase of $27 per metric ton during the last week. In contrast, the cost of conventional Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) at the Dutch port largely maintained its stability.
This upward trend in Rotterdam's B30 prices occurred despite a reported $21 per metric ton decrease in POMEME barge prices within the ARA (Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp) region, as assessed by Prima Markets. Concurrently, the value of ZRE A tickets, which are generated through the supply of POMEME, also saw a reduction from €110/mtCO2eq.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development indicates a potential rise in bunkering costs for vessels opting for biofuel blends in the Rotterdam area. While conventional fuel prices are steady, the premium for B30 biofuels is increasing, which could influence carrier fuel surcharges and overall shipping costs for environmentally conscious routes. Monitoring these price fluctuations is crucial for budgeting and selecting optimal bunkering strategies.
