Paradip Port Authority (PPA) and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) are working together to assess and develop the port's capacity for exporting green energy. This collaboration was initiated after a meeting between PPA Chairman Shri P. L. Haranadh and an MGC delegation.
The partnership builds on recent commercial agreements. MGC previously signed a ten-year deal with ACME Group for the annual supply of 100,000 tonnes of green methanol, which will be produced at a new facility currently being built in Paradip. Additionally, ACME Group secured an agreement with IHI Corporation for the yearly provision of 405,000 tonnes of green ammonia from its facilities located in Gopalpur.
For freight forwarders and supply chain managers, this development signifies a growing focus on sustainable fuels and green logistics infrastructure in India. The establishment of green methanol and ammonia production and export capabilities at Paradip could lead to new bunkering options for vessels, potentially impacting vessel routing and fuel procurement strategies for carriers operating in the region. It also indicates a long-term commitment to decarbonization within the maritime sector, which may influence future regulatory compliance and operational costs.
