Ocean Network Express (ONE) is reportedly implementing a new strategy for its West India to US East Coast (USEC) cargo. Industry sources indicate that ONE intends to transship this cargo via Colombo, Sri Lanka, to compensate for the reduced capacity resulting from the termination of its direct West India–US East Coast (WIN) service.
This operational change means that shipments from West India bound for the USEC will no longer have a direct ocean route with ONE. Instead, they will be routed through Colombo, where cargo will be transferred to another vessel for the onward journey to the US East Coast.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this development implies longer transit times and potentially increased complexity due to the additional transshipment point. Forwarders will need to factor in the extra handling and potential for delays at Colombo when planning shipments and providing estimated delivery dates. It could also lead to adjustments in freight rates for this specific trade lane as the service structure changes.
