Xiamen ITG Shipping, a subsidiary of China's ITG Group, has placed an order for up to six new multipurpose vessels. The contract was awarded to Qinshi Jiamei Shipyard for the construction of these 15,200 deadweight tonnage (dwt) ships. Developed in partnership with German shipowner Von Nordic Maritime, the vessels are engineered to offer substantial cargo capacity and flexibility in handling various types of freight.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this fleet expansion signifies increased capacity for breakbulk and project cargo movements, particularly on routes served by ITG Shipping. The addition of modern, versatile multipurpose vessels could lead to more frequent sailings or greater flexibility in accommodating oversized and heavy-lift shipments. This development may offer more options for shippers dealing with non-containerized cargo, potentially impacting routing decisions and lead times for specialized projects.
