The Iranian aviation sector presents a substantial opportunity for aircraft manufacturers, driven by a population of approximately 90 million, an outdated aircraft fleet, and years of pent-up demand. However, unlike the brief market opening observed after 2016, the current landscape is significantly different. Major manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, and key engine suppliers are presently dealing with unprecedented order backlogs.
This situation means that even if sanctions were to ease and Iran's market fully reopened, these manufacturers would have limited production capacity to accommodate new, large-volume orders from Iranian carriers. For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this implies that any anticipated increase in air cargo capacity linked to new aircraft deliveries to Iran would be severely delayed. The lack of available new aircraft could also constrain the growth of passenger belly cargo, impacting overall air freight options to and from the region.
