EXMAR has announced that its vessel, the Antwerpen, has successfully finished its first commercial voyage utilizing a dual-fuel ammonia engine. This marks a significant development as the Antwerpen is the world's first oceangoing vessel to operate commercially on ammonia fuel. The 46,000 cubic meter midsize gas carrier, which was delivered in the previous month, traveled from China to India.
During this maiden voyage, the vessel's ammonia dual-fuel system performed precisely as anticipated, confirming the viability of this technology for commercial maritime operations. EXMAR indicated that the company and its partners will continue to optimize the systems based on this initial success.
