Cathay Pacific has announced the resumption of its dedicated freighter services to the Middle East, effective August 1. The Hong Kong-based carrier's cargo division, Cathay Cargo, will reintroduce freighter flights to Riyadh. This development coincides with the ongoing restart of passenger services to the region, which include daily flights to Dubai and four weekly flights to Riyadh.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this signifies an increase in direct air cargo capacity between Hong Kong and the Middle East, particularly for Riyadh. The reintroduction of freighter services suggests a dedicated uplift for larger or more time-sensitive shipments, which may lead to improved transit times and potentially more stable rates on this specific trade lane. The additional capacity could also alleviate pressure on belly cargo space, offering more flexibility for various shipment types.
