A new dedicated air cargo route has been established, connecting Ezhou Huahu Airport in China's Hubei province with Lahore, Pakistan. This direct freight link represents a notable advancement within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a major infrastructure and economic development initiative. The service is operated by SF Airlines, utilizing a Boeing 747-400 freighter, and is expected to facilitate increased trade between the two nations.
This development builds upon existing CPEC projects, which have historically focused on road and sea infrastructure, such as the port of Gwadar. The introduction of a direct air cargo connection signifies a strategic expansion of CPEC's logistical capabilities, aiming to diversify transport options and accelerate cargo movement.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this new route could offer a faster and more direct option for moving goods between Western China and Pakistan, potentially reducing transit times and improving supply chain efficiency. It may also create new opportunities for consolidating cargo and developing multimodal solutions leveraging Pakistan's geographic position. Forwarders should monitor capacity and rate developments on this lane as it matures.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to establish Pakistan as a central gateway for trade between Western China and other regions, leveraging its geographical proximity and CPEC infrastructure.
