LATAM Cargo Chile has commenced a new direct freighter route, establishing a weekly connection between Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Antofagasta (ANF). This service, which began on May 23, introduces approximately 25 tonnes of dedicated cargo capacity per week, specifically designed to bypass the limitations of bellyhold space on passenger flights. The primary objective of this new corridor is to enhance logistics for industries in northern Chile, particularly the mining sector, by offering a more direct and efficient airfreight option from Europe.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this new service represents a significant improvement in air cargo options for the Europe-Chile trade lane, especially for time-sensitive or high-value shipments destined for northern Chile. The dedicated freighter capacity can lead to more reliable scheduling and potentially reduced transit times compared to routes involving multiple stops or reliance on passenger aircraft. This could positively impact supply chain planning for businesses serving the Chilean mining industry, offering greater flexibility and certainty for their inbound logistics.
