Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), in partnership with Ascent Aviation Services and lessor World Star Aviation, has officially launched its Boeing 777-300ERSF passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversion program in North America. The inaugural Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, sourced from World Star Aviation's fleet, has been delivered to Ascent's recently expanded Pinal Air Park campus in Marana, Arizona, to begin the conversion process.
This development signifies an expansion of IAI's P2F conversion capabilities, bringing the specialized work to a new continent. The Marana facility is now equipped to handle the complex modifications required to transform passenger aircraft into dedicated cargo freighters.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this initiative is crucial for future air cargo capacity. The introduction of more 777-300ERSF freighters will eventually provide increased lift capabilities for large volumes and heavy cargo, potentially easing capacity constraints on key air trade lanes. This could lead to more stable rates and greater flexibility in routing, particularly for e-commerce and time-sensitive shipments requiring widebody aircraft. The long-term impact will be a more robust global air cargo fleet, offering enhanced options for shippers.
