The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced an expansion of its Cargo Accounts Settlement System (CASS) across Latin America. This initiative is a direct response to the increasing air cargo volumes observed throughout the region.
Specifically, CASS is now available for domestic air cargo operations within Mexico and is slated for implementation in Brazil in the near future. Additionally, the service will be extended to cover air cargo exports originating from Paraguay later this year. CASS is designed to simplify and standardize the billing and settlement of accounts between airlines and freight forwarders, reducing administrative costs and improving cash flow.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this expansion means more efficient and standardized payment processes for air cargo shipments in these key Latin American markets. The streamlined system can lead to faster reconciliation, reduced payment discrepancies, and potentially improved operational efficiency. It may also encourage more carriers to utilize the CASS system, offering a more unified approach to financial transactions within the air cargo supply chain in the region.
