Hapag-Lloyd has announced the implementation of a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on cargo moving to Australia. This new charge will affect all container types originating from the Far East, the Indian Subcontinent, the Red Sea, and the Middle East. The surcharge is scheduled to commence on July 15, 2026, and will continue until further notice.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this PSS signifies an increase in shipping costs for the affected trade lanes. It is crucial to incorporate this additional charge into rate calculations and client quotes for any shipments booked for sailings from mid-July 2026 onwards. The indefinite nature of the surcharge means that it will be a sustained cost factor, impacting overall logistics budgets and potentially influencing routing decisions or inventory management strategies for goods destined for Australia.
