FedEx has announced plans to bring its full fleet of MD-11 freighters back into service by the fourth quarter of 2026. This initiative was confirmed by FedEx President and CEO Rajesh Subramaniam during the company's fourth-quarter 2026 earnings call on June 23. Currently, four MD-11Fs have already been returned to operational status.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, the reintroduction of these MD-11Fs signifies a potential increase in air cargo capacity, particularly for express and time-sensitive shipments. While the exact routes for these aircraft were not specified, a larger operational fleet generally contributes to improved network flexibility and potentially more stable capacity offerings, which could help mitigate peak season surcharges or capacity constraints on key lanes.
