Greek container ship owner Euroseas has announced the expansion of its newbuilding program in China. The company exercised options for two additional 1,800 TEU feeder containerships, which will be constructed at Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering. The delivery of these vessels is anticipated in December 2028 and March 2029, with each ship valued at approximately $32.26 million.
This move signifies Euroseas' ongoing strategy to modernize and grow its fleet. The addition of these feeder vessels will enhance its capacity in regional trade lanes, supporting larger mainliner services.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this expansion indicates a potential increase in feeder capacity in specific trade regions by late 2028 and early 2029. While not immediately impacting current rates or capacity, it contributes to the long-term supply of smaller container vessels, which are crucial for connecting smaller ports to major hubs. This could lead to more stable or competitive rates for regional feeder services in the future, assuming demand aligns with the increased supply.
