Ulstein Digital has released two artificial intelligence-powered solutions aimed at simplifying environmental compliance for the shipping industry. One system focuses on the European Union and United Kingdom's Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) scheme and Emissions Trading System (ETS) requirements. The second tool is specifically tailored for quarterly nitrogen oxide (NOx) reporting for vessels operating in Norwegian waters.
These new solutions are designed to connect directly with data sources already present on vessels, requiring minimal hardware modifications. The systems automatically collect, validate, and compile the necessary data, which helps in generating accurate and timely compliance reports.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development could lead to more efficient and reliable environmental reporting from their carrier partners. Automated compliance tools reduce the administrative burden on vessel operators, potentially minimizing errors and ensuring adherence to increasingly stringent environmental regulations. This might indirectly contribute to smoother port calls and reduced risks of penalties related to emissions, which can impact overall supply chain costs and transit times.
