Technology companies The Hashgraph Group (THG) and Truesense have jointly submitted a European patent application for a new digital identity system. This innovative system is designed to allow travelers to access various controlled environments, such as airports and train stations, without the need for physical tickets, passes, or other entry documents. Concurrently, the two companies have also applied for a substantial EU subsidy amounting to €74.3 million to fund the development and implementation of this system.
For freight forwarders and supply chain professionals, while this news primarily concerns passenger travel, the underlying technology of digital identity and seamless access could have future implications for cargo movement. Enhanced digital verification systems at transport hubs might streamline security checks or access for authorized personnel and vehicles, potentially improving efficiency in cargo handling and reducing delays. However, direct impact on freight rates or capacity is not immediately apparent from this development.
