The Crimean Peninsula, annexed by Russia, has officially declared a state of emergency. This decision was prompted by significant economic difficulties, as announced by regional leader Sergey Aksyonov. Ukrainian forces are reportedly intensifying efforts to isolate the peninsula, targeting critical infrastructure and fuel supply routes with missile and drone strikes. These actions are causing considerable disruption to public life and economic activity in the region.
For freight forwarders and logistics operations, this situation implies severe disruptions to road transport, particularly for fuel and essential goods. The targeting of infrastructure suggests potential damage to roads and bridges, leading to rerouting, delays, and increased operational costs. Forwarders should anticipate significant challenges in moving cargo into or out of Crimea, with heightened security risks and potential for further supply chain interruptions. Insurance premiums for shipments to the region may also rise due to the elevated risk profile.
