BLS Cargo Nord has successfully operated the inaugural train on the newly upgraded Line 11 rail route, which provides access to the Combinant terminal within the Port of Antwerp. This significant infrastructure project involved both the doubling of tracks and the complete electrification of the line, aiming to modernize and enhance the port's rail connectivity.
This development is crucial for freight forwarders and logistics operators as it directly impacts rail freight efficiency and capacity. The electrification of the line will allow for the use of electric locomotives, reducing reliance on diesel and potentially lowering operational costs and emissions. Doubling the tracks will increase throughput, reducing potential bottlenecks and improving schedule reliability for trains entering and exiting the port. This could lead to faster transit times and more consistent service for cargo moving via rail to and from Antwerp, a key European logistics hub.
