The air cargo market is currently confronting three primary challenges: a critical shortage of qualified staff, insufficient freighter capacity, and an increasing vulnerability to cyberattacks. These concerns were voiced by various speakers during a panel discussion at the Air Cargo China event held in Shanghai.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, these challenges translate into several operational difficulties. The recruitment crisis can lead to delays in ground handling and administrative processes, potentially impacting transit times and service reliability. Limited freighter capacity means higher rates and reduced flexibility in booking cargo, particularly for urgent or high-volume shipments. Furthermore, the growing threat of cyberattacks necessitates enhanced vigilance and robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive shipment data and prevent operational disruptions, which could lead to significant financial losses and reputational damage.
