APM Terminals has announced the completion of its new container terminal located at the Port of Suape in Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil. This significant infrastructure project, which involved an investment of over US$350 million, is now in its final stages before commencing commercial operations. The terminal is notable for being the first fully electrified container terminal in Latin America, aiming to set a new benchmark for sustainability and efficiency in port operations within the region.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, the launch of this new terminal at Suape could offer enhanced capacity and potentially improved operational efficiency, leading to faster vessel turnarounds. The fully electrified nature of the terminal suggests a commitment to reducing emissions, which may align with shippers' and forwarders' sustainability goals. This development could also attract more direct services to Suape, potentially optimizing transit times and offering new routing options for cargo moving to and from Northeast Brazil.
