The RDW, the Netherlands Vehicle Authority, has officially granted approval to Toll4Europe to function as a service provider for the country's new truck toll system. This authorization means that from July 1st, truck operators will be able to utilize Toll4Europe's European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) compliant on-board units (OBUs) to manage and pay the forthcoming road usage charge in the Netherlands.
According to the RDW, Toll4Europe has met all necessary criteria concerning reliability, data protection, and operational functionality. This approval is a crucial step in the implementation of the Dutch truck toll, which aims to charge heavy goods vehicles for using specific road networks.
For freight forwarders and logistics operators, this development simplifies compliance with the new Dutch toll system. The availability of an approved EETS provider like Toll4Europe means that carriers already using their OBUs for other European tolls can potentially integrate the Dutch toll payment into their existing systems, reducing administrative burden. It also ensures that a reliable and verified option is available for managing these new costs, which will directly impact operational expenses for road transport through the Netherlands. Forwarders should ensure their contracted carriers are aware of this new payment option and its implications for routing and cost calculations.
