WinGD, a Swiss marine power company, has announced a new five-year service agreement with NYK LNG Shipmanagement. This contract encompasses ten X-DF dual-fuel main engines installed on five LNG carriers. The agreement covers a fleet built over several years, showcasing WinGD's X-DF technology across different generations.
The covered vessels include two LNG carriers constructed in 2022 and 2024 by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), respectively, each powered by two WinGD 5X72DF engines. Additionally, three newer vessels, built in 2025 and 2026 by HHI, are equipped with two 5X72DF-2.1 engines each. The comprehensive service package includes essential spare parts for scheduled maintenance, technical labor, and workshop services.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this agreement signifies enhanced reliability and uptime for a segment of the global LNG carrier fleet. Consistent maintenance and readily available spare parts reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns and delays, which can impact shipping schedules and supply chain predictability. This stability is crucial for the timely delivery of LNG, a significant energy commodity. The long-term nature of the agreement also suggests a commitment to maintaining high operational standards, potentially leading to more consistent vessel performance on key trade routes.
