SOHAR Port and Freezone, a joint venture between the Sultanate of Oman's ASYAD Group and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, has announced a leadership transition. Dr. Raid Al Rubaiey will assume the role of CEO for SOHAR Port and Freezone starting October 11. He will take over from Emile Hoogsteden, who has led the organization for over four years. Dr. Al Rubaiey currently serves as the Deputy CEO of SOHAR Port and holds the CEO position for SOHAR Freezone, a role he will retain alongside his new responsibilities.
In addition to Dr. Al Rubaiey's appointment, Fabio Grandchamp has been named Deputy CEO of SOHAR Port and Freezone. Grandchamp previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer for the entity.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this leadership change at a significant Middle Eastern port and free zone could signal potential shifts in strategic priorities or operational focus. While immediate impacts on rates or capacity are unlikely, new leadership often brings fresh perspectives on infrastructure development, digitalization initiatives, or trade lane emphasis. Monitoring future announcements from SOHAR will be important to understand any evolving operational frameworks that might affect cargo routing or port services.
