Qatar's Nakilat has taken delivery of the "Energy North," a new LPG and ammonia carrier with a cargo capacity of 88,000 cubic meters. This vessel is the inaugural delivery in a series of six new ships ordered by the company and is slated to begin commercial service on October 2, 2026.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, the addition of new vessels like the "Energy North" to the global fleet indicates a potential increase in capacity for the transport of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and, significantly, ammonia. As ammonia is increasingly viewed as a future marine fuel, dedicated carriers for this commodity could support the developing supply chain for alternative fuels. This expansion might contribute to more stable rates and improved availability for specialized gas shipments in the long term, particularly for routes serving the Middle East.
