Höegh Evi and Petroleum Sarawak (PETROS) have announced a collaboration to establish an LNG import terminal in Kuching, Malaysia. This joint development, ownership, and operational agreement focuses on a facility that will incorporate a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). The project's objective is to achieve its "first gas" milestone by the end of 2029.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signifies potential new opportunities in project cargo and specialized logistics for the construction phase of the terminal. Once operational, the terminal will increase LNG import capacity in the region, which could influence energy supply chains and potentially lead to more stable energy costs for local industries. Forwarders involved in the energy sector should monitor the progress for future shipping and handling requirements related to LNG carriers and associated infrastructure.
