Kazakhstan intends to significantly raise its crude oil exports through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, which connects Azerbaijan to Turkey. The target is to reach 7 million metric tons per year, as stated by Daulet Arykbayev, director of oil transportation and refining at Kazakhstan's energy ministry. Azerbaijan has reportedly expressed strong interest and readiness to accommodate these increased volumes.
This development could lead to a shift in crude oil transportation routes, potentially increasing demand for tankers in the Mediterranean region, particularly at the Turkish port of Ceyhan. Freight forwarders involved in energy logistics should monitor the capacity and scheduling implications for crude oil movements out of the Black Sea and Mediterranean. Increased volumes could also influence regional bunker demand and vessel availability for crude oil shipments.
