A 33-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested on October 7th by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee at a prominent courier service located near Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The arrest stems from an investigation by the CargoHarc-Team Schiphol into a drug consignment intercepted by Dutch Customs. The shipment contained one kilogram of cocaine and 28 kilograms of ketamine.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this incident highlights the ongoing vigilance required in air cargo and express parcel operations, particularly at major hubs like Schiphol. Increased scrutiny by customs and law enforcement agencies on suspicious shipments can lead to delays and additional checks, impacting transit times and operational efficiency for legitimate cargo. Forwarders should ensure robust compliance procedures and due diligence when selecting partners and handling shipments, especially those with unusual origins, destinations, or contents, to mitigate risks associated with illicit activities.
