Maritime administrations from six Central American countries have commenced efforts to develop a comprehensive regional strategy. This initiative, spearheaded by the Operative Network of Regional Cooperation of Maritime Administrations in Central America (ROCRAM-CA), involves collaboration with experts from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and national representatives. The primary goal is to foster greater coordination and cooperation to advance maritime development throughout the region.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the implementation of a unified regional maritime strategy in Central America could bring several benefits. It may lead to more streamlined and standardized port operations, customs procedures, and regulatory frameworks across the participating countries. This harmonization could reduce transit times, lower administrative burdens, and improve overall supply chain predictability for shipments moving through or between these nations. Enhanced cooperation might also result in better infrastructure planning and investment, potentially increasing port capacity and efficiency in the long term.
