A.P. Moller Capital, operating via its A.P. Moller Capital – Emerging Markets Infrastructure Fund II (EMIF II), has announced a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Portek International Pte. from Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Portek, established in 1988 and headquartered in Singapore, specializes in cargo port operations and engineering services.

Portek's terminal operations are geographically diverse, with interests in Algeria, Gabon, Indonesia, Latvia, Malta, and Vietnam. Annually, these terminals collectively process approximately seven million tonnes of bulk cargo, 700,000 containers, and around 90,000 vehicles. Beyond terminal management, Portek also offers essential port engineering, operations, and maintenance services, primarily from its bases in Singapore and Indonesia.

For freight forwarders and supply chain analysts, this acquisition signifies a consolidation in the global port operating landscape. While unlikely to cause immediate rate or capacity shifts, it could lead to future operational efficiencies or strategic realignments at Portek-managed terminals. Forwarders with cargo moving through these specific ports may observe changes in service offerings or operational procedures as the new ownership integrates Portek into its portfolio.
