Yokogawa Electric Corporation recently announced it has secured contracts from Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. to equip two new hydrogen-fueled vessels with integrated automation systems. Additionally, Yokogawa will supply a similar system for a 40,000 cubic meter liquefied hydrogen carrier, which is anticipated to be the largest vessel of its kind globally.
The scope of supply for the hydrogen-fueled vessels includes a marine hydrogen fuel system (MHFS), comprising liquefied hydrogen tanks and associated fuel supply equipment. For the liquefied hydrogen carrier, the system will offer integrated monitoring and control capabilities for all onboard equipment, alongside critical emergency shutdown functions.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signals a continued trend towards decarbonization in the maritime sector. The introduction of more hydrogen-fueled vessels, especially large carriers, could lead to the expansion of green shipping corridors and the availability of lower-emission transport options in the future.
