TFG Marine has confirmed that its bunker barge, the Kingston Trader, is currently sailing towards Jamaica. This vessel has recently undergone installation of a Coriolis mass flow meter (MFM) system, a technology designed to enhance accuracy in fuel delivery.
Upon its arrival, the Kingston Trader will commence operations in Jamaica through a local collaboration with Scott Petroleum. This initiative is significant as it will introduce the first bunkering vessel in the Caribbean region to be outfitted with MFM technology, potentially setting a new standard for fuel transaction transparency and precision in the area.
For freight forwarders and vessel operators, the deployment of MFM-equipped barges in Jamaica could lead to more reliable and transparent bunkering operations. This technology helps ensure that the exact quantity of fuel paid for is delivered, reducing disputes and potential losses due to inaccurate measurements. This can improve operational efficiency and cost management for vessels calling at Jamaican ports.
TFG Marine also stated that with the Kingston Trader's upgrade, approximately 88% of its entire bunker fleet is now equipped with MFM systems, indicating a broader commitment to this technology across its global operations.
