Mundra Port is experiencing considerable disruption to its container flows following a policy change by APSEZ regarding empty container depots. This new policy has prompted around 1,500 transporters to halt their operations, impacting the movement of goods.
Sarjak Container Lines CEO, Supal Shah, has issued a warning that exporters could face substantial delays, miss critical vessel cut-off times, and incur additional logistics expenses throughout India as a direct consequence of these changes.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this situation implies potential challenges in securing empty containers, increased lead times for exports from the region, and a likely rise in inland transportation costs. Forwarders should anticipate the need for alternative routing or extended planning to mitigate these impacts, potentially affecting schedule reliability and overall supply chain efficiency for clients with cargo moving through Mundra.
