Transense Technologies and Unison, a GE Aerospace company, have announced progress in their collaboration to develop advanced torque-sensing technology for hybrid-electric aerospace propulsion systems. This joint effort has already contributed to notable achievements, including the successful completion of the first hybrid-electric flight exceeding 30,000 feet in altitude and the inaugural hybrid-electric transatlantic crossing.
The partnership leverages Transense's SAWsense technology, which is a key component in measuring torque, combined with Unison's extensive expertise in aerospace engineering and system integration. The primary goal of this collaboration is to create more efficient and reliable propulsion systems for the next generation of hybrid-electric aircraft.
For freight forwarders and air cargo operations, advancements in hybrid-electric flight technology could lead to more fuel-efficient aircraft in the long term. This might translate into reduced operational costs for airlines, potentially influencing air cargo rates or enabling new routes that are currently less economically viable due to fuel consumption.
