MacGregor has been awarded contracts to provide specialized deck machinery and scientific handling equipment for a total of four research vessels. Two of these vessels are being built at the GONDAN shipyard in Spain, while the other two are under construction at the Titagarh shipyard in India. The delivery of MacGregor's equipment is planned to commence in 2027 and continue through the third quarter of 2029.
This development signifies ongoing investment in marine research capabilities globally. For freight forwarders, while this news does not directly impact immediate cargo rates or capacity, it highlights continued activity in the specialized shipbuilding sector. Forwarders involved in project cargo or breakbulk logistics may find future opportunities in transporting large components for such vessels or their scientific equipment, particularly to and from shipyards in regions like Spain and India. The long lead times for these deliveries suggest a stable, albeit niche, demand for specialized logistics services over the coming years.
