Tersan Shipyard in Turkey recently held a keel-laying ceremony for a new cable-laying vessel (CLV) commissioned by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). This vessel is specifically designed for the installation of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables, a critical component for modern energy infrastructure.
The CLV represents a significant advancement for South Korea, as it will be the nation's sole vessel dedicated to HVDC cable installation. HVDC technology is essential for transmitting large amounts of electricity over long distances with minimal loss, particularly from offshore renewable energy sources like wind farms to onshore grids, and for interconnecting national power grids.
