Air China Cargo has inaugurated a new direct air cargo service, operating twice weekly, between Ürümqi Tianshan International Airport (URC) in China and Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) in Scotland. This new route substantially increases Glasgow Prestwick's air freight connectivity with mainland China, bringing the total number of weekly flights to 16.
This development is expected to create new export avenues for Scottish producers, particularly those in the salmon, seafood, and whisky industries, by providing more direct and efficient access to the Chinese market. For freight forwarders and logistics managers, this new service means increased capacity and potentially more competitive rates on the China-Scotland trade lane. It also offers improved transit times for high-value Scottish exports, reducing reliance on indirect routes and enhancing supply chain efficiency for perishable goods and premium products.
