Rotterdam-based maritime technology company PortXchange has officially joined the Sustainable Shipping and Aviation Alliance (SASHA Coalition). In this new role, PortXchange aims to highlight the essential function of ports in achieving the shipping industry's energy transition goals. The company's managing director, Sjoerd de Jager, emphasized that ports are crucial convergence points where ships, alternative fuels, infrastructure, cargo flows, and local communities interact. He stressed that neglecting the port perspective could lead to theoretical energy transition plans that prove impractical in real-world application.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this collaboration signals a growing focus on the practical implementation of decarbonization strategies at port level. Increased port involvement in initiatives like SASHA could lead to more standardized and efficient processes for handling alternative fuels, improved vessel turnaround times due to better coordination, and potentially new port-based services related to sustainable shipping.
