ORLEN has announced that its new transshipment terminal at the Gdańsk refinery has begun operations. The initial activities at the facility involve vessels loading marine gasoil (MGO) and delivering fatty acid methyl ester (FAME), a key component in biofuel manufacturing. This terminal is strategically designed to manage more than 1.8 million tonnes of cargo each year. Its operational scope includes a diverse range of products originating from the Gdańsk refinery, such as FAME, Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester (UCOME), ethanol, lubricants, and low sulphur marine gasoil (LSMGO intended for the bunker market.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, the opening of this new terminal signifies an increase in regional bunkering capacity, particularly for low sulphur marine gasoil. This could lead to more competitive pricing and improved availability for vessels operating in the Baltic Sea region.
