A recent three-year trial conducted aboard the 15,300 TEU container ship *Maersk Hamburg* has concluded that Steelpaint's moisture-cure polyurethane coating system offers superior corrosion protection compared to traditional epoxy systems. The test focused on lashing bridges, critical areas exposed to harsh marine environments. Results indicated that the section protected with Steelpaint's coating experienced substantially less corrosion and damage, requiring no maintenance from the crew during the trial period. In contrast, the epoxy-coated areas showed more significant degradation.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development could lead to several benefits. Enhanced corrosion protection means less vessel downtime for maintenance and repairs, potentially improving schedule reliability. Reduced maintenance needs also translate to lower operational costs for carriers, which could indirectly influence freight rates by contributing to overall efficiency.
