MacGregor has been awarded a contract to deliver a 165-ton active heave compensated (AHC) crane for a new Ulstein SX121 vessel. This specialized vessel is part of a 1+1 program for Jan De Nul and is being constructed at the China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) shipyard. The AHC crane technology is crucial for maintaining stability and precision during offshore lifting operations, especially in dynamic sea conditions.
This order highlights continued investment in high-specification vessels designed for complex offshore projects. Such vessels, equipped with advanced heavy-lift capabilities, are essential for supporting various maritime industries, including offshore wind, oil and gas, and subsea construction.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signifies a growing demand for specialized heavy-lift and project cargo services. The deployment of new vessels with enhanced crane capabilities can improve efficiency and expand the scope of offshore logistics, potentially impacting the routing and handling of large, complex components for energy and infrastructure projects. It underscores the importance of partners with expertise in breakbulk and project cargo movements.
