Lloyd's Register has officially awarded Type Approval to SeaARCTOS for its ARCTOS-1 emissions monitoring device. This innovative technology is designed to be mounted on a ship's exhaust stack and provides continuous measurements of carbon dioxide (CO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), and methane (CH₄) emissions. The device is notably lightweight, weighing under 3.5 kg, and operates by utilizing waste heat generated from the exhaust, eliminating the need for external power sources.
The ARCTOS-1 has completed over 20,000 hours of testing in real-world maritime conditions, demonstrating its reliability and accuracy. SeaARCTOS CEO Fredrik Fuglesang highlighted the importance of robust emissions monitoring for the effectiveness of regulations such as FuelEU Maritime, the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), and the proposed IMO Net-Zero Framework. He emphasized that efficient, consistent, and tamper-proof monitoring is crucial for regulators, port authorities, and flag states to enforce these environmental standards effectively.

This development supports the industry's move towards greater transparency and accountability in environmental performance.
