Torben Carlsen, who previously served as the CEO of the Danish shipping company DFDS until 2025, has been appointed as the new Chair of Ofiniti, a digital platform specializing in bunker operations. Ofiniti originated as FuelBoss within the class society DNV before becoming an independent entity in 2024. DNV Ventures remains the primary shareholder, with additional investment from Nysnø, a Norwegian state-owned climate investment firm, UK-based Verb Ventures, and Singapore-based ShipsFocus Ventures.
Since its spin-off, Ofiniti has demonstrated significant growth, both through organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. Notable acquisitions include Angsana Technology in Singapore and Teqplay in the Netherlands. The platform has reportedly managed more than 40,000 bunker operations to date, indicating its established presence in the digital bunkering sector.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signals a strengthening of digital solutions in the maritime fuel procurement landscape. The appointment of a seasoned industry leader like Carlsen could accelerate Ofiniti's influence and potentially streamline bunker purchasing processes, leading to greater transparency and efficiency in fuel supply chains. This could indirectly impact vessel scheduling and operational costs by optimizing fuel stops and pricing.
