BUKO Transport, based in Beverwijk, has integrated its first fully electric truck into its fleet. This vehicle, a MAN eTGX 28.449 6x2-4, is reportedly the first three-axle electric tractor of its kind to operate in the Netherlands. The truck is designated for civil engineering tasks, specifically in road construction, for its long-standing client KWS, with a primary focus on operations within Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
This deployment signifies a move towards greener logistics in the heavy transport sector. The use of electric vehicles in such demanding roles, like road construction, demonstrates the increasing viability of battery-electric trucks for specialized applications.
For freight forwarders and logistics managers, this development highlights the growing availability and adoption of electric heavy-duty vehicles for specific regional and project-based transport needs. While not directly impacting international linehaul rates, it indicates a shift in local delivery and project logistics, potentially leading to new tender requirements for low-emission transport in certain areas or for clients committed to sustainability. It also suggests that capacity for electric road transport is slowly building, which could influence routing and cost for specific types of cargo requiring eco-friendly inland solutions.
