Elonroad, in partnership with Kalmar, is currently testing a new conductive charging system designed for electric terminal equipment. This technology allows machinery to charge while in motion, potentially eliminating the need for equipment to stop for recharging. The trials are taking place in Sweden, focusing on the practical application and efficiency of dynamic charging within a terminal environment.
This development is significant for freight forwarders and terminal operators as it could lead to increased productivity and reduced operational costs. By minimizing downtime associated with traditional charging methods, terminals can optimize equipment utilization and improve overall throughput. This continuous operation capability could also reduce the number of spare batteries or charging stations required, streamlining terminal infrastructure.
Should these trials prove successful, the technology could be widely adopted, influencing how electric equipment is integrated into port operations globally. This would represent a notable step towards more sustainable and efficient logistics chains, particularly in high-volume container terminals.
