CoreMarine has successfully disconnected the Hilli Episeyo floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit from its offshore location near Cameroon. This critical operation marks a significant step in preparing the 2.45 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity unit for its next phase. The Hilli Episeyo will now proceed to Singapore for necessary upgrades and maintenance before being redeployed to Golfo San Matias in Argentina.
This move is part of a broader project for Golar, which involves the installation of a soft yoke mooring system and subsequent vessel hookup at the Argentinian site, anticipated to commence from mid-2027. The project highlights the specialized services required for offshore energy infrastructure, involving complex engineering and precise maritime operations.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this type of project signifies demand for specialized heavy-lift and project cargo services. The movement of an FLNG unit and its associated equipment requires meticulous planning for oversized cargo, potentially involving specialized vessels and port handling. Forwarders should anticipate requirements for high-value cargo insurance, detailed route surveys, and coordination with multiple stakeholders for such large-scale energy projects. The upgrades in Singapore will also generate logistics needs for components and personnel.
The redeployment to Argentina indicates a new phase of activity in the South American energy sector, potentially creating further opportunities for logistics support in the region.
