A.P. Moller – Maersk has begun implementing a new generation of IoT connectivity devices for its refrigerated container fleet. The shipping giant plans to install this advanced technology on all its reefer containers over the next few years. Currently, about 30 percent of Maersk's total reefer fleet has been equipped with these new devices.
This initiative aims to significantly improve the data flow and visibility within the cold chain. For freight forwarders and operations managers, this means enhanced real-time monitoring of sensitive cargo conditions, such as temperature and humidity, inside Maersk reefers. This improved data stream can lead to better proactive management of potential issues, reduced cargo spoilage, and more reliable cold chain logistics. It also offers greater transparency for shippers of temperature-controlled goods, potentially streamlining customs processes and compliance checks due to more accurate and accessible shipment data.
