Louisiana-based boatbuilder Metal Shark has received two Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contracts from the U.S. Coast Guard. These contracts specifically cover the manufacturing of 38 Defiant patrol boats, which are destined for the maritime forces of Cameroon and the Republic of Georgia. Each agreement includes one of these patrol boats.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this news highlights ongoing international defense procurement, which often involves specialized logistics for oversized or high-value cargo. While these are military vessels, such contracts can indirectly influence demand for heavy-lift and project cargo services for components or completed vessels, potentially impacting niche market capacity and routing for similar types of shipments.
