LATAM Airlines Group is significantly expanding and modernizing its fleet, with plans to operate 410 aircraft by the end of 2026. The airline has already taken delivery of 13 next-generation aircraft in the first half of the current year. An additional 28 aircraft, comprising Airbus A320neo, A321neo, and Boeing 787-9 models, are expected to be delivered before the close of 2026.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this fleet expansion by LATAM Airlines suggests a potential increase in air cargo capacity, particularly in the Latin American market. The introduction of more modern aircraft, such as the Boeing 787-9, often comes with enhanced belly cargo capabilities, which could lead to more options for airfreight shipments. This could positively impact capacity availability and potentially stabilize or reduce air cargo rates on routes served by LATAM, offering more flexibility for routing and booking cargo.
