German intermodal operator Kombiverkehr plans to launch a new direct rail service linking Duisburg, Germany, and Malmö, Sweden. The service is scheduled to commence in September, providing two round trips per week. This new connection is expected to strengthen intermodal freight transport options between Central Europe and Scandinavia.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this direct rail link offers a more efficient and potentially more reliable alternative for cargo moving between Germany and Sweden. It could help bypass road congestion and reduce transit times, particularly for shipments that traditionally rely on a combination of road and ferry services. The introduction of this dedicated shuttle may also contribute to more stable capacity and potentially competitive pricing on this specific trade lane, offering a predictable schedule for planning.
