Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy has announced the delivery of the 'Lucia Cosulich', a new methanol-ready bunker tanker. The vessel was handed over on July 2nd at the Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipyard in China. This 7,999 DWT tanker is the second of four identical IMO II bunker vessels, with the first, 'Anna Cosulich', having been delivered in May.
The 'Lucia Cosulich' is designed to enhance Fratelli Cosulich's bunkering capabilities and adapt to evolving fuel demands, particularly for alternative fuels like methanol. The company emphasized that these new vessels represent a generation focused on operational reliability, safety, and fuel flexibility.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, the introduction of methanol-ready bunker tankers signifies a growing trend towards decarbonization in the maritime industry. As more carriers invest in dual-fuel vessels, the availability of methanol bunkering infrastructure will become crucial. This development by Fratelli Cosulich contributes to that infrastructure, potentially supporting future green shipping corridors and offering more sustainable fuel options for vessels calling at ports where these tankers operate. While not directly impacting immediate freight rates or capacity, it signals a long-term shift in maritime fuel supply, which could influence vessel choices and routing for eco-conscious shippers and carriers.
